The Hazelwood Mine Fire Inquiry Board is inviting the Anglesea community to attend consultation sessions on 28 June 2015. These sessions, which relate to planning by the Anglesea Mine operator for the coming fire season, commence a broad program of community consultations as part of the Inquiry Terms of Reference.
Board of Inquiry member Mrs Anita Roper said that the Board was keen to share details of the Inquiry process with the community and to hear from people in the local area about what questions could be answered by the mine operator.
As part of the Hazelwood Mine Fire Inquiry, which was recently re-opened, the government has tasked the Board of Inquiry with reporting on the sustainable, practical and effective options that could be undertaken by the mine operator to decrease the risk of fire arising from or impacting the Anglesea Mine for the 2015/2016 summer season, noting the impending closure of the mine on 31 August 2015.
Members of the public can attend one of two consultations sessions at either 10.00am or 2.00pm on Sunday 28 June 2015 in the Anglesea Memorial Hall, 1 McMillan Street, Anglesea.
To register interest in attending call 1300 556 034 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
People can also submit written comment in relation to the Anglesea Mine Terms of Reference Paragraph 11) by 10 July 2015.
The Board of Inquiry will deliver its recommendations on minimising fire risk at the Anglesea Coal Mine site by 31 August 2015. It will report on the health effects of the 2014 coal mine fire and measures to improve health in the Latrobe Valley in December 2015, and deliver its findings into coal mine rehabilitation in March 2016.
